The Digital Skills Society favors teaching its members through providing them with skill documents; these contain a wealth of the best courses, videos and articles found online with the aim of helping the learner gain an understanding of the skill. However, the most frequent complain question posted on our helpline board is, which should I focus on more, the courses, videos or articles?
There is no specific answer to this question as everything like a double-edged sword, has its pros and cons. The truth varies from person to person, those who favor the flashy and colorful sights of a YouTube video should go towards that direction while the option of courses and articles are open for those members who wish to learn in more detail and depth.
Videos are mostly preferred because a topic is explained in a colorful way which appeals to the eyes and explain in a short and concise manner, but unlike the courses offered by the DSS, offer no certificates from top universities on completion. Those certificates hold the potential to greatly enhance your resume and make your university and job applications stand out among an ocean of applicants. However, as the world’s knowledge is advancing rapidly, courses and videos often get obsolete and are often difficult and slow to learn which might cause some members to lose interest and quit altogether.
Articles on the other hand explain a skill in great detail which attracts those of us who wish to learn in depth but like courses, they too can get obsolete. And they are often boring for those who prefer the color of videos.
Moreover, for those who find it easier to read than to watch, articles remain the only option. Sometime, the only learning resource that comes to one’s aid, is articles, as the others do not match the learner’s requirements.
The skill documents of the DSS include resource material from all three sources to help every type of member and aid them on the path to online earning.
