The Roots Millennium College offers a variety of clubs and societies for its AS and A-II batches. One of the largest and most famous of these was the Microsoft Club. Headed by the exceptionally intelligent twin brothers studying in As, Hammad and Huzaifa, this club has a membership of 32 students from IG-III, AS and A-II.
Unlike many of the other clubs that just involve random school events like that of Debating or the Fitness Society, the Microsoft club allows you to have a firsthand experience at learning computer skills and then employing those means to earn some real cash. For students like me and others who were interested in starting early and gain some semblance of financial independence, this club was considered as a shining gold mine.
A total of sixteen skills are taught in this club. Before the orientation session started, all the valued members were asked about which skills they wanted to attain. Content writing was a highly demanded skill along with Video Editing, E-commerce and Affiliate Marketing.
The orientation session premiered on Saturday the 28th of November. Due to the current ongoing COVID crisis, the meeting was held online on ZOOM .It was a half an hour session scheduled between 3 to 3:30 p.m. The society was then filled in on the various skills offered for learning along with the software required for practicing that skill.
For E-commerce, Daraz and OLX were the recommended platforms. Content writing required Microsoft Office and Google Docs. Affiliate Marketing required Amazon while Digital Marketing had to be practiced on Canva. Furthermore, for Image Editing, Photoshop, for Graphic Designing, Adobe illustrator. For Video Editing, Adobe Premiere. For Audio Editing, Adobe Audition was offered. Scratch was to be used to learn Programming. MS Excel was to be used for Data Science. For Content and Script Writing, MS Word and Google Docs were the recommended platforms. For Web Development, WIX was to be used. For App Development, BUBBLE, 'Programming Languages' was the platform for Artificial Intelligence. Unity was to be employed for Game Development.
After a session of thirty minutes, Huzaifa Siddique himself raised the question that had been floating around the attendees' minds from the start, “Both of us did tell you guys that you will earn money online, but you must be thinking, what have they earned that they are telling us to do the same”. Upon which he opened the famous online earning platform Fiverr and showed us that his account had earned a total of $180. This was greatly motivating for all the members as we saw firsthand among our own friends, people who had the courage to try online earning and had thrived because of it. Online earning which had at first seemed as a distant dream to most of us, now suddenly seemed possible.
The session concluded soon after, most of us were waiting eagerly for the next session. It was a very productive and interesting experience.
